Welcome to the Centre

A warm welcome is always awaiting you and your family at the Oaklands Sure Start Children’s Centre, based within the school site. We are here for you, from your pregnancy, right through to your child’s transition into primary school.  Our enthusiastic and committed staff are highly trained. They are always available with a listening ear, offering support for you and your family, whatever your needs.

A wide range of activities are on offer providing opportunities to learn new skills and develop confidence whilst having fun. Your child can make new friends as they play, while you may need advice on family matters, job training or childcare while having a coffee and a chat with others.

The health visitors and midwives run clinics from the centre, (please see timetable) offering health and parenting support.

Our Team

Tracey Perry

Children’s Centre Manager

Hi I am a working mum with four children aged between 17 and 26 years. I started childminding when my children were young and followed this with some voluntary work in primary schools. I went back into full time employment when my youngest child was 2 years old and have worked within education for 13 years. I have supported in the classroom including targeted work for children with S.E.N, Aspergers and Dyslexia. I have organised and delivered behaviour support programmes within secondary education departments and supported students with their exams and college applications/placements. My previous role allowed me to support and engage with parents and families resolving issues that arose at school or in the home. I joined Oaklands Surestart Centre in September 2010 and have found it very friendly and welcoming. I love every minute of my new role as Children Centre Manager. I enjoy supporting families to reach their full potential and I always try to address the community’s needs. The Surestart team and myself have a wealth of knowledge and experience of working with children and their families which we would be more than happy to share with you.

Jac Walton

Community Liaison Officer (CLO)

Hi I’m Jac I have been working with children for 7 years.  I started in primary school children as a Learning Support Assistant, then 1:1 with children who have special educational needs such as visual impairment, hearing impairment, Aspergers, Autism and global learning delay

After three years I decided to take my SENCO work into Early Years and work with children three and under in a nursery setting I found this very rewarding and built good working relationship with parents/carers. After 2 years I became a Senior Nursery Officer, where I took on new challenges and experiences of leading a team and supporting them through daily routines.

I have been working as a Community Liaison Officer at Oaklands Children Centre since December 2010 I’m really enjoying my new role. I love working with families from the community and planning play activities for all to come and join in with. I have a very supportive team at Oaklands who have been very welcoming since my first day.
